Pro-RH bill is not anti-life!

Much has been said and written about the RH bill that this entry of mine might just be one of the hundreds circulating the web today. Honestly, I would prefer to keep silent on critical matters like this one but it is inevitable especially when these are just catching so much attention from the mainstream media.

IT IS ANTI-RELIGIOUS TYRANNY.

I am pro-RH bill but I am not an anti-Church, that I can guarantee. This entry is written to present a set of arguments which I personally believe to be valid and logical to a considerable degree, pointing to reasons why I eagerly support the RH bill. Of course, you don't need to agree with me. I do not have any motive other than to share a piece of my mind and urge you to share yours as well. Some of my comments may raise some eyebrows and hurt other feelings but my apology in advance.

We had this seminar weeks ago and one of our speakers was a priest in the local church
- sorry, I forget his name. He talked about the Church's stand on the RH bill and why it should be kill. With all due respect to him, he sounded pretty arrogant to me. I hate it every time he says, "O, di niyo alam yan!" as if he's talking to a bunch of illiterates. I disgust people who talks and acts like they know everything. I cannot even count on my fingers how many times he said that annoying phrase. Boooooo! Sige na po, ikaw na talaga!

IT IS ANTI-IGNORANCE.

The Church is screaming bloody murder, saying that the bill is a "pro-abortion bill". WHAAAT?! Now, I wonder if we have read the same bill because the bill I read stated no such thing. In fact, it actually does the complete opposite. The argument that the RH bill would legalize abortion is just a distraction. Forget that. Obviously, this is an invalid argument being spread by people who are against the bill. And what is alarming is that we are falling for it.

They also insist that we are not overpopulated. I get that. I do not claim otherwise. At 90 million, we are not overpopulated, nevermind if almost half are living below the poverty line. The Philippines is NOT and NEVER overpopulated. With 7,107 islands, we can even support billions of people - and I am not exaggerating. The thing is, we have a population more than we should have considering our finite resources and it is still growing at a pace that we cannot support anymore. It doesn't take a genius to know that the bigger the population, the bigger the food demand thus aggravating the price increase. It also means more energy will be required to sustain a reasonable standard of living which could make a toll in our nature. This is not pleasing to the ears but the Philippines cannot afford uncontrollable population growth. We need to curb our population a bit to allow resources to be more beneficial thus resulting to better quality of life.

And lemme clear this - the population control is not versus birthing per se. It is against irresponsible birthing.

IT IS ANTI-DAY DREAMING.

I also find it funny when the Church are scared off their wits just hearing the term *drum rolls* SEX EDUCATION. Anti-RH folks insist that the bill will spawn a generation of sex maniacs. (Refresher course: The bill states of the mandatory sexuality education from Grade 5 to 4th year high school) I don't know if they are drunk or they are just plain stupid that they failed to read the word "age-appropriate" written with it. And they keep on insisting that it degrades morality. How is it immoral, exactly, to teach students how to properly manage their sexual well-being? Tell me.

I understand the Church's concern that it is the responsibility of the parents to educate their children about sex. But this I tell you folks: there is a large number of Filipino parents who didn't had the opportunity to be informed, much less discuss, anything about sex education.

IT IS ANTI-HYPOCRISY.

Natural family planning as claimed by religious folks as the moral way of limiting the population has been practiced since, well, the time began but that method has failed over and over and over again. The RH bill is not just about contraceptions for Pete's sake. It is about the freedom to choose what's best for your family. It is called RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD. It prevents couples from having too many children, too soon, too fast.

Cong. Manny Pacquiao said that "Kung nag-condom po ang aking ama, si Mommy D, wala pong Manny Pacquiao." I bet he thought, oh I'm so witty! (Just a few weeks ago, he was caught saying: Magsumbong ka sa lolo mong panot - which, IMO, is the dumbest thing I heard from a politician) But had he ever thought that not all people are as lucky as him?

IT IS ANTI-IRRESPONSIBILITY!

Also, this good vs. evil thing that those religious folks is spewing is frustrating and getting on ym nerves. They are insisting something like this: anti-RH bill are good, pro-RH bill are bad and anti-life. Sorry CBCP, I cannot see myself as anti-life. I value life as much as you do. I cannot understand what is so un-Catholic in encouraging couples to refrain from having too many children that they can't afford to feed and nourished? I think there is none. Oh well, these priests won't understand a thing about family planning until each of them are raising children of their own.

"Humayo kayo at magpakarami" is their epic excuse for valid issues being thrown against their stand. God may told us to procreate but believe me, he didn't mean it this way. The Church just wanna play around using the Bible.

I think I made this long enough. Let me end this on a lighter note (kinda). With all the hullabaloo surrounding the RH bill, I realized that not everything you see or hear or read is the complete truth and if you are determined to make decisions, you must search for these truths yourself. Screw the surveys. I don't care if 86% of Filipinos support the bill and 2% doesn't. (To tell you, I didn't join the pro-RH bill bandwagon because it is freaking popular.) Statistics or popularity doesn't create the truth. It can be misleading. What I mean is, let us not content ourselves from choosing what's immediately available to us. We've done that many times over and look where it got us. Be critical and analyze the issue carefully, regardless of your belief, because at the end of the day, the decision is in your hands.

To pro-RH and anti-RH bill (and those who are still undecided at the moment): Take time to read the RH bill. And try to understand the views of others. It will help you decide if you're on the right side.

I became sad. Why? Because I am Pro-RH Bill. Confused? haha. I missed seeing the word "not" in the the title of this post.

i just don't get it why many of those anti-RH bill would keep on saying that this bill is pro-abortion. I think they better read and review the whole bill. What a big misconception that is and perhaps a misconception some anti-RH bill enjoyed spreading. I actually read the bill (because I was required by my HS teacher years ago to write something about it). The Bill actually prohibits abortion; one of its goals is actually to stop abortion.

Also, in terms of sex education, I think it really has to be taught before the kids try to learn it the "hard" and irresponsible way.

I think this comment is too long. Anyway, whatever these anti-RH people would say about their concept of life i am still pro-Rh and that definitely does not mean anti-life.

Anyway again, i respect other people who may be anti-Rh bill as long as they are firm with their reasons not just because the Church is against it. People need to read and review the bill first. That's the time that they should tart criticizing

This is the age of reason, therefore Filipinos should think for themselves and not decide based on what the Church is saying.
History tells us that the Catholic Church is the prime movers of backward progress.
Very concise points but I only read half of this post.
I have problems with small and alternating font colors - red and yellow is a bit dizzying for a colorblind guy like me.

BTW, nice blog you got here. Keep it up!

I haven't read the RH Bill yet.. and after reading this blog, maybe I should read it asap huh.

Hindi nako magc-ko-comment about the Church and abortion issues (kasi nga hindi ko pa nababasa).. pero I just wanna share my thoughts about "sex education"...

Siguro sa panahon ngayon na sobrang lawak na ang abot ng media, namely TV, movies and internet, mas mainam nga sigurong magkaroon ng sexuality education. I mean, kids of 6 or 7, can basically watch a rented adult movie nang hindi nalalaman ng kanilang mga magulang. Plus, with just a click of a button, andaming mga adult materials online na pwede nilang ma-access..

Kids are very curious nowadays, so I guess, it's better na sa school na lang nila malaman ang mga bagay-bagay about their sexual well-being..

Just my two cents.. :)

nice one Enchong! I totally agree! Dahil dyan, may star ka kay teacher.. hihihi!

Seriously, natutuwa ako sa mga ganitong post mo. Eye opener.

Hindi ba nila napapansin ngayon na hindi ka na in pag wala kang anak at the age of 16?!?! And if you ask those KIDS why.. kasi they don't have enough knowledge on family planning and the like. E di sinong kawawa ngayon?

Ganito lang yan e.. an unwanted baby was born, his PARENTS doesn't deserve to be called such, what will they do? ipapaampon? pagttrabahuhin? Now let's go back.. Sinong sisisihin?

Sila bang anti-RH (aka Pro-life) ang bubuhay sa mga batang yun?

(Mainit ang ulo?) =)

I have yet to read the bill. But according to our speaker, who's also a doctor (she's anti-RH Bill BTW).. She said that the RH Bill will give the woman "the choice" to terminate her pregnancy. Whether it's already 9mos or less.

I still have to read the bill.

Would just like to end this with a story: http://drowninginhisgrace.tumblr.com/post/4189119089/one-smart-doctor-best-pro-life-message-yet

i know a lot of people have an opinion on this. but i can only agree to what you have said: "I am pro-RH bill but I am not an anti-Church."

Kristian I got confused with your first statement for a while. Lol. Next time kasi basahing maigi. :P

Hoobert the Awesome said...

I agree with you Yodz. The Church has been meddling with our internal affairs for the last 500 years and look where it got us. This is enough!

Oops, sorry if the colors are contrasting. :/ Anyway, thanks for the visit. :)))

Hi Ate Leah!

Kids/teens are naturally curious. They have the right to know what's happening on their bodies. Obviously, parents doesn't have sufficient knowledge about these things.

I don't know what's on the head of some pesky and nosy priests. Grrrr.

Hoy hoy hoy Ate Kura-ching! Long time no chit-chat huh. Loooool. I'm kinda busy e and I know you are, too!

I watched sa I-Witness weeks ago yung documentary about dalagitas living in Sapang Kawayan (I'm not sure if I got it right) in Pampanga. Out the 150 teens (girls) there, 38 have already (a) child/ren. Tsk, tsk. As early as 12-13 meron ng anak. And what is surprising is, matagal na palang nangyayari ang ganun dun. Sa place na yun, kapag 18 ka na and wala ka pang anak, napag-iwanan ka na DAW. Shikes!

Thank you for the kind words. Don't worry, I'll make more quality posts.

haha. Never mind mo na yon. Maliban sa nakakalito yung sinabi ko eh parang mali din sa pag-construct ko sa sentence. Ay basta. haha

Hi Mic! Thank you for reading my post. :)))

Anyway, I cannot remember reading that the RH bill will allow mothers to terminate her pregnancy. RH bill doesn't promote abortion in any way.

I hope you can be able to read it.

If you're in a medical field, you will understand why RH bill SHOULD NOT BE PASSED IN THE PHILIPPINES. They say contraceptives are essential medicines? Let me tell you something. All medications have SIDE EFFECTS. It is proven that taking pills will increase your risk to have cancer, specifically BREAST CANCER. Why? Because a hormonal imbalance in your body will always be ABNORMAL. Too much or too little is bad. ANG MALI, HINDI MAITATAMA NG ISA PANG MALI. And RH Bill is NOT A SOLUTION. We are all HUMANS. You dare say that we ANTI-RH were manipulated by the Catholic Church? We have our own minds to control. And mind you people that we, in the medical field, were more educated about this contraceptives and its adverse effects to your health. Sinasabi mong hindi mo pinapatay ang bata pag gumamit ka ng contraceptives? Sige. If the RH bill is passed and all pregnancies will be aborted, kanino kaya magkakaron ng effect yun? Diba sa mother? Those people who have positions in the government SHOULD PROTECT OUR RIGHTS, NOT DESTROY THEM. ISANG KABALBALAN ang sabihin na LIFE STARTS FROM IMPLANTATION. It's a basic Anatomy & Physiology actually. It starts from FERTILIZATION (sperm cell infiltrating the egg cell). After that, IMPLANTATION starts. A single cell in your body is a mere truth that it is ALIVE. IT HAS A LIFE. You talk about RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD? You dare talk about RESPONSIBILITY, but you don't even know WHAT IT MEANS in the first place!? What about your taxes? Gusto mo mapunta sa mga contraceptives na yan? It's unfair! And mind you pro-RH. There's something going on under that RH bill. If we don't pass this bill, the US government will not support us. Yun ang ayaw nilang mangyari. It's all about GRAFT AND CORRUPTION. Contraceptives is not just about CONDOMS. IUD, VASECTOMY, ETC. ALL OF THESE HAVE ADVERSE EFFECTS. Your minds were all CORRUPTED by our government, by your OWN SELFISH INTERESTS. So don't say that ITS FOR THE POOR. You like RH Bill because it has many advantages? Think about its consequences. Don't you know that medical professionals will be MANDATED to give contraceptives to people? Take note: IT WILL BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL. And we, even though it is against our morals (according to our bioethics), will be forced to do it. If we violate it, we will be prisoned. To general perhaps? I say again, RH Bill is NOT A SOLUTION. A bill this general will pose a great danger to all of us. We might not experience it right now since it's still not happening. But please. THOSE WHO ARE PRO-RH, PLEASE CONSIDER MY ARGUMENTS. Do not close your minds because of those advantages.

i think that you are not pro-life

you can't prevent life and say you are pro-life

that's hypocrisy

you can't promote contraception and say you are pro-life

that's ignorance

contraception is short for contra conception

contra= against
conception = beginning of life

so how do you call your self?

if you are against the beginning of life, then it is clear that you are anti-life

and the way you present your arguments only shows that you are also anti-church

the Catholic Church never said that we should give birth like dogs or pigs. they are actually encouraging family planning using methods that are compatible with our faith and beliefs.

http://letter-for-life.tumblr.com/ How can you say that? The RH Bill promotes CONTRAception and prevents life you idiot. And by definition, IT IS ANTI LIFE.
