Azkals on the prowl!

As I write this, I can’t help but to be proud of our boys. They are definitely doing their home works. Last Suzuki Cup, the Azkals drew with Singapore and Myanmar and defeated nothing less than Vietnam and for all I know, it’s going to be in the almanac for quite sometimes. In fact, their out-of-this-world victory against the Viets made it to the “Top Ten Soccer Stories of 2010” by Sports Illustrated. Quite cool, right?

I know it’s disappointing we didn’t win the Cup but as odd as it may sound, I cannot escape the feeling of pride that continues to swell inside me. There was something born out of all this. Something that fired up the national imagination. And that’s something that, I know, cannot be easily forgotten.

The Azkals generates so much intensity, so much passion from the Filipinos. I can no longer count in my fingers how many sites mushroomed overnight for the Azkals. Surely, the Philippines’ heart beats five times faster for basketball and four times for boxing but the Azkals inspire us to forget about free throw and uppercut for a second and understand what a penalty kick means.

This February 09, the Azkals is about to face enemies from Mongolia. Football-insane Bacolod is excited. They haven’t slept for days. They’ve been itching to host a football match and to shout themselves hoarse. The believers’ reward in supporting the Azkals is the chance to cheer and jeer for them in person. Unluckily, I’m one of those who have no choice but to be left behind and just send my sincerest love, support and prayers.

To the Azkals,

Take courage! We know you can win against Mongolia. You are a good team now. Keep that good job. I believe in short time that you will be able to fly even higher. Nothing is impossible. Just believe. And we will be with you not because you’re winning but because you’re fighting until the end.

Cheers!

For now, let us keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best next week. And oh yes, please wear white whether you’re in Bacolod or not.

Last year, the Azkals made skeptics into believers. Now, it’s time to make them DIE-HARD FANS!

Not a big sports fan here so wala ako masyadong alam sa kanila. Wahaha. But yeah, it's kinda nice that they're putting in a good name for our country.

Ah. Ganun Kuya Robbie? Sayang naman oh.

Try to watch the Azkals game kahit sa television lang. You'll enjoy, I swear!

Now if there were only a thousand Jubert/Hoobert/Jubibos on the venue of the match, I'm betting on it, victory shall befall the Azkals!

I mean, look at you...you even dedicated an entire blog post for them!

I hope I possess the same level of interest over them (or on the game fof that matter) like you do, but nonetheless, I still support them.

(And I do hope this whole craze won't be just a national fad in the making.)

Go Azkals! :)

Hey Kuya Raymond! The Azkals deserves this post. I mean, they've been working their asses out to give pride to our country & I think the best way to repay them is to show them some love. Hahaha!

Actually, the original plan is to post this on December 20 something (after they lost to Indons) but there was just no time. XD So, I edited some part and VOILA - Azkals on the prowl!

You know Kuya Goyo, I have this gut feeling that Azkals will stand victorious over the Mongolians on the 9th of February. :)))

My fingers are crossed. How about you? XD

i would have never imagined a team of football from the Philippines. Noong world cup nga I was kidding with my international friends (brazilian, american, chilean, italian, mexican, canadian) na meron tayong team (di ko alam na meron nga!)...lahat kasi sila may national teams....
ngayon kahit from afar (miles miles away from Pinas)...i monitor every moves they make...salamat sa isang blogger na kaibigan ko si Ryan....
Let's hope na the government will really support this sport, akmang-akma sa mga pinoy, mabilis tumakbo at hindi kailang ang mataas na height..

gogogogogo Azkals!!!

Hi Kuya Blu! Noong WC 2010, sobrang naiinggit din ako sa mga participating countries. I even used to ask myself kung kelan din kaya tayo makakapaglaro dun.

In a struck of good fortune, nakapasok tayo sa semis ng Suzuki Cup, first time in 14 years. Amazing, diba?

I know na Azkals will be even more bigger these coming years.

In all honesty, I feel very bad to this team because they are only noticed when they won when in fact they have been around for a while already.

It's not pleasing to the ears Kuya NU but that's the sad reality.

I'm also new to the cause. I knew about this team way back in 2005, dun sa laban nila with East Timor. SEA Games po yata yun. Pero ngayon lang ako naging fan, soooobrang fan. :|

A sports writer said that this is the newest "bayanihan" movement. And it's the truth. Sana lang ma-sustain.
